This policy explains what information is collected when you use this website (dana.lol), Guessr (the daily dashcam guessing game at guessr.dana.lol), and Tripbot, the chat bot that runs in the live chat of the A Dana Life livestream on Twitch and YouTube. It is written in plain language because the honest summary is short: very little information is collected, and none of it is sold.

Who runs this

A Dana Life is operated by A Dana Life, LLC, a company owned by an individual (Dana). Questions about this policy can be sent by email to danadotlol.remove@nospam.gmail.invalid.com or through the contact page.

What is collected

This website. The site is static and does not require an account. If you choose to use the contact page, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent so that your message can be read and answered. The site’s host (Cloudflare) processes standard server request data (such as IP address and browser type) to serve pages and protect against abuse.

Guessr (the daily game). Guessr has no accounts, no login, and never asks for your name or email address. To keep score across the five rounds of a day and put you on the leaderboard, your browser makes up two things the first time you play: a random identifier that means nothing outside the game, and a two-word alias chosen for you from a fixed list (you can reroll it, but you cannot type your own). Both are stored on your device, described under “Cookies and device storage” below.

When you submit a guess, what is recorded is the date, that random identifier, the alias, which clip you were shown, how far your guess was from the answer, and the points it earned. Your IP address is deliberately not stored alongside it. Practice rounds are not recorded at all.

Your alias and score are public: they appear on the game’s leaderboard, and they may also be shown on screen during the live stream on Twitch and YouTube. Since the alias is assigned rather than typed, it is not meant to identify you — if you would rather not appear, don’t play the daily game, or ask for your rows to be removed using the contact details below.

The game offers a link (and a QR code) for playing on a second device. Opening it moves that browser’s scores under a single identifier, and only after you confirm a prompt. Anyone you show that code to can join their scores to yours, so treat it as personal to you.

Tripbot (Twitch & YouTube live chat). When you type in the live chat of the A Dana Life stream, Tripbot reads public chat messages so it can respond to commands (for example !location, !weather, or !guess). The only information it sees is what the platform makes public: your chat display name and the text of the message you send. Tripbot does not access your email address, private messages, watch history, subscriptions, or any data that isn’t part of the public live chat.

On both Twitch and YouTube, your public display name and message text are written to short-lived operational logs (used for debugging and abuse prevention) that are automatically deleted within 14 days. On Twitch, your public display name may also be associated with stream features such as the miles leaderboard.

How YouTube data is used

Tripbot uses YouTube API Services to read the live chat of the active broadcast and to post replies back into that same chat. By interacting with Tripbot on YouTube, you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service. Information handled through the YouTube API is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

Tripbot’s access to the YouTube channel is authorized by the channel owner, not by individual viewers, so there is no per-viewer login to revoke. The channel owner can revoke Tripbot’s access at any time through the Google security settings.

Public chat data read through the API is used to generate a real-time reply. Your display name and message text are also written to short-lived operational logs (for debugging and abuse prevention) that are automatically deleted within 14 days, and are mirrored in real time to a private operator console so the stream operator can watch chat as it happens. This data is not profiled, combined with data from other sources, sold, or used for advertising. Apart from posting Tripbot’s reply back to YouTube’s own API, it is handled only by the infrastructure services that run these functions for us — a logging provider, an error-monitoring service, and, if you send the operator a report, the alerting channel that report is delivered to. A Dana Life, LLC is operated by one person and shares this data with no one else.

What is not done

  • Your information is not sold or rented to anyone.
  • Your data is not used for advertising or ad targeting — see “Affiliate links” below for the one form of advertising the site does contain.
  • No attempt is made to identify viewers beyond their public chat display name.

Affiliate links

Some blog posts contain Amazon affiliate links, marked with #ad. If you buy something through one, A Dana Life, LLC may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These are ordinary web links: they don’t use your personal information, and no viewer data is involved in showing them. The YouTube and Twitch Tripbot chat experience itself contains no ads or affiliate links.

Data retention

Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to respond to them. Public live-chat data (your display name and message text, from both Twitch and YouTube) is written to operational logs that are automatically deleted within 14 days. Some of this activity may also appear in supporting operational records — error-monitoring diagnostics, and any report you choose to send the operator — which are retained per those services’ standard retention and used only to run and debug the stream. Twitch chat activity that powers stream features (such as the leaderboard) is kept for as long as those features run, and can be removed on request.

Guessr scores (the date, the random identifier, the alias, the clip, the distance and the points) are kept for as long as the game and its leaderboard run, since they are what the leaderboard is. Clearing them from your own browser is the “start fresh” button in the game; removing the recorded scores as well is a request to the contact address below, and the identifier is the only thing that ties them together.

Cookies and device storage

This website. The site does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. The only first-party storage it uses is functional: a theme value saved in your browser’s localStorage to remember your light/dark-mode choice, plus the strictly-necessary cookies our host (Cloudflare) may set (such as __cf_bm) to serve pages and protect against abuse, described in the Cloudflare cookie policy.

Some blog posts embed third-party players — YouTube videos and the Twitch stream. When a page containing one of these embeds loads, that provider may set its own cookies on your device, governed by its own privacy policy (see “Third-party services” below). Pages without an embed load none of these.

Guessr. The game sets no cookies. It uses your browser’s localStorage for the state a game needs to work: the random player identifier and assigned alias described above, which day you have finished and what you scored, a history of your past guesses (kept for the “all my guesses” map, capped at the most recent 250), your light/dark-mode choice, and two flags recording that you have already seen the intro and the about panel. All of it stays on your device — the history map is drawn locally and never sent anywhere. The “start fresh” button in the game clears everything Guessr has stored in that browser, which also means the next guess you make is recorded as a new player.

Guessr uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses, and does not follow you between sites; see the Cloudflare privacy policy.

The game’s map is drawn from OpenStreetMap tiles, the end-of-game screen embeds the YouTube live stream, and one small library is loaded from the unpkg CDN. Loading any of these tells that provider your IP address and browser, as any web request does; the YouTube embed uses the no-cookie player host. See “Third-party services” below.

Tripbot (YouTube live chat). Tripbot runs server-side against the YouTube API. It does not place, access, or recognize any cookies, identifiers, or other storage on your device or browser.
